Sports betting bonus
We welcome our new customers with a betting bonus on their first deposit. At Bethard, we do not mislead our customers with hidden conditions; instead, we make it clear that there are requirements which you can read more about further down the page. Players can only get one bonus per account, and that's on their first deposit. We believe it’s important to educate players about bonuses as it’s a subject that is constantly discussed in various online forums.
General information about welcome bonuses on sports
As the name suggests, welcome bonuses are about giving new customers a good welcome to the site. Welcome bonuses are often designed so that new customers receive these in connection to their first deposit.
The reason why welcome bonuses are so common is that they benefit everyone. They help us to attract new customers and they help you to get off to a flying start with your betting. It just makes good sense. This is why Bethard and so many other bookmakers are willing to be generous with bonuses.
How do wagering requirements work?
A recurring question that many wonder about is how wagering requirements work. What are the wagering requirements for a bonus and how do they actually work for players? We want to be completely transparent here and are therefore happy to explain in detail what this means.
Basically, the wagering requirements are there to ensure that customers don't just register an account, use the generous sports bonus and then directly withdraw the money. We all understand that whenever you’re offered a financial incentive in life there must be some kind of balance involved, right?
In other words, you as a player need to do something in return before you get to withdraw your bonus money. Wagering requirements are usually based on two components: time limit and the number of times you must wager the bonus.
The time limit is usually between 30 and 90 days. The reason for this is that it would be very easy to abuse a bonus if you were allowed to choose bets during a long time period. How many times you need to wager the bonus is most important to keep track of. Normally it is between 6-10 times.
Sometimes, there is also a minimum limit on the odds you can wager your money with. In other words, you cannot just bet on low odds but must reach a certain level of odds in order to qualify. This is also to minimize bonus abuse.
There is of course also the minimum deposit amount i.e. the minimum amount of money you need to deposit in order to get the bonus. And don’t forget, only 1 account and 1 bonus are allowed per player. You can read more about the wagering requirements on the promotion page. Make sure you read them and successfully receive your bonus.
So-called “risk-free bets” or “free bets” give you the chance to place a bet online without risking your own money. You place a bet, keep your fingers crossed that the game goes as you have imagined and, hopefully, collect a nice win. However, if you aren’t lucky and the game does not go your way, you get your money back directly to your game account.
Bethard's assessment of the legislation regarding these bets is that “risk-free bets” and “free bets” are technically considered a type of bonus. Therefore, Swedish customers should not expect such offers.
Our odds are always variable but players are always guaranteed the odds they placed a bet on – something that does not apply with all bookmakers. The unique thing about Bethard is that now and then we adjust specific odds for different matches so that the odds really increase. This is called “odds boost” and should not be considered a bonus but, rather, improved odds.
We offer high odds or odds boosts on the major leagues mainly in football. If you are on the move, you can therefore play at the best odds on the market for competitions including the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Europa Cups Champions League and Europa League.
This feature gives you the ability to cash out a bet early. In other words, you can close your bet before it is settled. Let's say your game has a final quarter to play and your team is starting to get tired - that would be a great time to use the cash out feature.
Winner's guide to sports betting
There are three simple yet basic principles for being successful in sports betting: good self-discipline, solid analysis and always being objective. Understanding sport is, of course, also important; but it is even more important to understand good value with a little mathematical knowledge.
Predicting the probabilities
Many players believe that sports betting is about predicting the outcome of a game. The truth is that that is impossible and therefore it's more about predicting the probability of different outcomes. This is a crucial insight if you want to be a winner in sports betting.
For example, a typical player might think about who will win when, say, Barcelona meets Manchester United in the Champions League. The conclusion reached is that, for good reason, Barca will win. You therefore bet on Barcelona at any odds. This is a cardinal error! A more professional player begins with the question: What probability is there that Barcelona wins – 50%, 60%, 70% or more? When you have decided on a percentage you then translate the percentage to odds and then hopefully get a surplus value – that's when you bet. Otherwise, don’t bother!
Always use statistics in your analyses
Always use statistics when you are analyzing. Through statistics and data, you avoid going on a gut feeling and missing valuable information. You can find statistics and various important information online. We recommend that you study them. That way you will become better at analyzing and predicting probabilities of a certain outcome. It may sound like a hassle, but we promise it makes things a lot more fun.
The difference between Pre-match and Live betting
Pre-match betting is all about predicting how a match will end before it has started. We recommend that players read up on stats and results from previous matches and evaluate all the latest info such as updates on players’ injuries and any tactical changes that teams make. There’s always a wealth of information and insights online and in the papers to help you out and inspire those predictions.
Live Odds / Live Betting
The most popular betting today is by far live betting, where you place bets live during the game. We offer live betting on all sports and leagues and it’s extremely exciting betting this way as you’re relying more on your own reading of the game than on tips from the pundits.
Understand the difference between live betting and pre-match
Being a winner at pre-match betting is something completely different to winning at live betting. In pre-match, it is important to analyze beforehand; whereas live betting requires more on-the-spot decisions and quick thinking. Here, you need to predict how different teams react to different situations. How does the coach react to a disadvantage of 0-1 and 0-2? Some coaches are aggressive and try to equalize at any price while others have a more calm and methodical approach. This is of great importance when working out if a match is likely to become goal-rich or not.
Betting should always be fun and it therefore requires good self-discipline – like everything else. Bethard has a good range of self-control features that we recommend that everyone uses. If you see any signs that your betting has spun out of control, please contact our staff so that we can take action and help you.
Below you will find some general tips for you as a player:
• Never play for money you do not have. Never borrow money in order to play!
• Set a bet limit to your game account.
• Set a limit on how long you can play.
• Be honest with yourself and open to others about your gambling.

Your betting guide
1x2 full time (match winner)
In 1x2 bets you need to figure out which of the teams will win. 1 indicates that you think the home team will win the match. 2 indicates that you think the away team will win the match. You can bet on x when you think the game will end in a draw. Note that 1x2 (full time) are games that are valid during regular time.
Total goals is the market for those of you who have a hunch as to how you think the match will end from purely a goals perspective. Here you need to figure out the total amount of goals that will be scored during a game, regardless of which team scores them. It is not to be confused with over/under where you bet on whether the goals scored will be higher or lower than a specified number.
Both teams to score (BTTS)
Here you need to decide whether both teams will score in the match or not.
Draw no bet (DNB)
Get your money back if the match ends in a draw. In this bet you are betting on which team will win. If the match ends in a draw you will neither win nor lose. In practice, this means that you get slightly lower odds than if you play regular 1x2 odds. However, you are insured in the case of a draw.
1 stands for the home team, X for draw and 2 for away team, remember? Here, you get to choose two of the possible three outcomes instead of just one - but at lower odds, of course! You can play 1X, X2 or 12. For example, if you play 1X that means you think either the home team will win or the match will end in a draw.
Total goals per team
Guess the right number of goals a specific team will score.
Total goals first half
As the name suggests, with this bet you need to predict exactly how many goals will be scored in the first half. Similar to the Total goals bet, but you’re focusing only on the first half of the match. There are corresponding bets for the second half as well.
Corners 3 way - Over/Under
Overplay or underplay is all about taking position on a fixed line or limit on the number of goals, corners or cards. Corners 3 way is about guessing how many corners there will be during the game. If the line is set to 5 corners, predict if there will be more (over) or fewer (under) corners during the match.
If you are looking for higher odds, betting on results is a great option for you. Here you should guess exactly how the match ends.
Guess the right scorer(s) in the match.
This is an interesting bet where you predict how the first half ends and how the match ends after full time. For example, 1/2 means that the home team leads during the break but loses the match in the second half.
1x2 1st half
This is like normal match odds but only during the 1st half.
1st team to score
Play on who scores the first goal. This bet is more popular in live betting as you can watch the first part of the match and see which team has the best start.
In 3-way bets there will be three different alternatives to play on with a predefined handicap. Either you back the home team (win over the handicap), or you play exactly on the handicap (draw, the difference is the same as the handicap) or you bet on the away team (the handicap can help you out here). It is the same principle whether you play on the number of cards, corners or goals in a match.
Asian handicap full time
Below is an explanation on how Asian handicap works in specific cases:
-1.5 = the team must win with two goals
-1.25 = half stake back at odd goal winner, full win at two goals
-1 = stake back at odd goal winner, full win at two goals
-0.75 = half win and half bet back at odd goal winner
-0.5 = full win on victory
+1.5 = the team can lose with max one goal
+1.25 = half the stake back in case of loss with odd number of goals, full win in case of cross or better
+1 = bet back in case of loss with odd number of goals, full win at cross or better
+0.75 = half the stake back in case of loss with odd numbers of goals, full win in case of cross or better
+0.5 = full win on cross or better
Asian handicap over/under goal
Below is an explanation on how Asian handicap works in more specific cases:
Over 2 goals = stake back at exactly two goals, full win for at least three goals in the match
Over 2.25 goals = half the stake back at exactly two goals, full win at least three goals in the match
Over 2.5 goals = full win for at least three goals in the match
Over 2.75 goals = half win for at least three goals in the match, half stake for exactly three goals, full win for at least four goals
Match winner & BTTS
Here, you play on who wins the match in combination with if both teams score.
Winning margin is for those who think they have a good idea of the goal margin (i.e. goal difference) by which the winning team will take their victory. The first thing to do is to try to figure out which team will win the match. To increase the odds, you can then bet on the exact winning margin of the match.
