Bethard gives you betting tips on football. Read our guide on how to learn how to bet on sports and increase your chances of winning. Football is widely regarded as one of the world's most popular sports. A natural consequence of this is that you'll find plenty of odds on the various matches in the football leagues, especially in the biggest.
Here at Bethard you can find odds on the Premier League, Serie A and other major leagues, but also on minor leagues in countries like Jamaica, San Marino, Senegal and Malta.
Betting on football (and any other sport for that matter) is exciting and fun, but it also requires a lot from you as a bettor. The more you know about a league and its teams, the more likely you are to place well-considered bets.
On this page we give you a little guide to football betting – become a better player with our football betting tips.
Before you even start betting on any matches, you need to know what odds are and how they work. Odds describe the probability that a team will win or that some other event will occur.

Something that is often mentioned in betting is what is called betting value. In a nutshell, value betting is about assessing whether the odds are good or bad. You should look for bets with a good payout in relation to how much you bet. A good value bet is when the odds are higher than your assessment of the probability, which can be a bit tricky at first but is something you learn over time.
Example of how to calculate betting value:
Arsenal v Manchester City in Premier League. The odds are 2.00 for Arsenal, 4.10 for a draw and 3.80 for Manchester City.
The first thing you do is to come up with your own probability assessment.
Let's say you expect Arsenal to win and the probability of them doing so is 60%.
To convert this to odds, divide the number 1 by the probability and convert it to hundredths.
The formula to calculate the bet value looks like this: 1 / (60 / 100) = 1.66.
Your calculated probability then corresponds to the odds of 1.66.
Thus, the odds of 2.00 above are higher than your calculated odds and thus have a high betting value.
A common mistake is to spread your bets across many different sports and markets. But it's impossible to keep track of more than a few leagues and players, and the more you specialize, the more likely you are to place successful bets. Consistently sticking to one or two leagues will help you stay well-informed about what's happening in those particular leagues.
Which brings us to…
An essential part in all betting.
The more you study the teams and matches, the more you will understand how the teams work.
Hur anpassar sig lagen och spelarna efter olika situationer? Är de känsliga för vilken typ av underlag man spelar på eller hur påverkade blir de av att någon av spelarna saknas på planen?
Analyze this and other factors while keeping statistics.
Was it rain or snow and the team behaved like an amateur team? Note that!
Having a strategy for your betting is a good way to play in a healthy way.
If you have a plan, you avoid betting too much or making bad bets.
There are plenty of strategies:
When you win, you are up by as much as your initial bet. The danger with this, of course, is that you can go bankrupt quite quickly if you have a long losing streak.
You theoretically have a 90% chance of winning and the idea is that you should place a large number of bets and bet your entire bankroll on each bet.
It's a risky system, but on the other hand, there's nothing that says you have to invest so much.
You start by betting 1 unit. In case of loss, you step forward in the sequence and bet 1, 2, 3, 5 etc until you win. If you win, you start again from the beginning.
Say you focus on betting on the number of goals. You choose “over 2.5 goals” in the match.
Statistics show that team A scores more than 2.5 goals in 80% of their home games and team B in 42% of their away games.
So there is a good chance that there will be at least 3 goals in the match.
Betting is not something you get rich from overnight.
Don't bet too much of your bankroll on a single match, start small and build a long-term plan for your game.
The secret is to be well read and continuously follow how the teams are performing and build your bets on statistics and current form.
Betting is a long-distance race and not a hundred-meter race.
Do you find it difficult to find slightly bigger odds? Try our smart Bet Builder.
It is a tool that allows you to combine different markets on the same match and bet on, for example, final score, number of yellow cards, corners and goal scorers.
Even in cases where matches have a clear favorite, you can get higher odds on your bet.
